Crime Prevention Class Presented to First Baptist Church

Mansfield Police Chief Gary Hobbs reports that on Friday- September 30th a crime prevention class was presented to a the B.A.L.L. (Be Active Live Longer) group of First Baptist Church of Mansfield. The class was presented by the police department, in partnership with the De Soto Parish District Attorney’s Office, as part of the crime prevention and education program launched earlier this year. Topics covered during the presentation focused on how to prevent identity theft, tips to use when shopping online, as well as home safety tips. Chief Hobbs extended his gratitude to the group for inviting them to give the free training. Any group interested in having a free training class can contact Chief Hobbs at the police department at 872-0520.

New Mansfield Fire Chief

On August 8th at the City Council meeting,  Mr. Alva Wayne Nichols was promoted to Fire Chief. Chief Nichols has been with the department for 15 years.



Firefighters receive certification

During the City Council meeting on August 8th, two firefighters received recognition for completing training.  Coty Rachal received recognition of his certification as a Fire Fighter II as administered by Louisiana State University and Agricultural and Mechanical College.  Christopher Samuels received recognition for his certification in Hazardous Material/WMD Operations administered by LSU and Agricultural and Mechanical College.

Sponsored by: The  Krewe of Demeter, Desoto Training Agency, MidSouth Bank, and Cleco.  The Back to school bash will be held at Mansfield City Hall Park July 29th ....DJ MACK FROM 6:00 p.m. - 8:30 p.m. AND a Movie in the park will start at 9:00PM ... Bring your chairs, blankets and the kids !!! Free popcorn and soda.  *Children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.  No backpacks will be given to a parent or guardian where the children are not present.  Children from any of the DeSoto Parish schools are invited.  Backpacks will be handed out until the supply is exhausted.

This year’s Mansfield Alive! Committee’s Annual Miss Merry Christmas Pageant Contest will be for grades 9th-12th.

This year, the winners will be determined by the contestant that raises the most money in each category. All entry forms can be picked up at the Mansfield City Hall and all High School locations. The deadline to return applications is Thursday, December 3, 2015

 All funds raised are to be turned into the Mansfield City Hall, 705 Polk Street, Mansfield, LA 71052, on Thursday, December 3, 2015.  All money must be submitted in the form of a cashier’s check or money order payable to Mansfield Alive! The winner will be notified by Friday, December 4, 2015.

Balloons Over DeSoto

DeSoto Parish will host its first ever Balloons over DeSoto May 8-10 at the C.E. "Rusty" Williams Airport.  There will be a balloon glow both evenings complete with music and an announcer.  Saturday, May 9th Topper-Voices of Rock & Soul will be playing along with a firework show starting at "dark-thirty."

New Garbage Collection Fees

Effective on the January 2015 billing, the monthly fees for garbage collection will be increased as follows: For customers located inside the city limits, the fee will increase to $10.00 per month.  For customers residing outside the Mansfield city limits fee will be increased to $15.00 per month.  Commercial rates for daily (Monday-Friday) pickup is set based on the time needed to load and remove the garbage and has been increased by $24.00 per month.

A group of civice minded citizens met on Nov. 5th to join forces for the annual Christmas toy drive.  At the meeting was Dianne Boyt of Dianne Boyt Insurance Inc., Gary Hobbs of Mansfield Police Department, Lynda Spivey of DeSoto Police Jury/Office of Community Services, Samantha Millard of Christ Memorial Episcopal Church, Lynette Carter of DeSoto Parish Sheriff Office, Glen Colvin of Mansfield Elementary and Janet Arnold of Project Celebration.  All of the above have done toy drives in the past.  We are now pooling our resources together in an attempt to reach as many of the children and teenagers in DeSoto Parish as possible.
